30 Corona Way, Belhus
5.6 Hectares (13.8 Acres)
Completely restored in 1989 the house has the following facilities; - 2 bedrooms, lounge room dining room, sleep out, kitchen, bathroom, laundry, storage room, second kitchen area and loft.
Outbuildings include the former grape picker’s quarters with 7 individual rooms, kitchen and managers quarters. Machinery shed. House orchard.
In 1831 George Leake, a prominent Swan colony merchant, partnered with Lieutenant Henry Bull to farm and establish a flour mill on this site. In 1837, the mill dam, mill race, mill pond and waterwheel were completed and the mill was powered by water. A newspaper report in April 1837, stated:
“We have a water mill at the head of the Swan just brought into operation. The construction of this mill owes its present state of forwardness to the ingenuity and perseverance of a man named William Cruse, formerly in the service of Mr Bull. It is erected on Mr Leake's grant, where there is a fine stream of water, sufficient to drive 2 or 3 pair of stones.”
In 1987, the late Mr John Roberts, chairman of Multiplex Constructions Pty Ltd, purchased the property and over the ensuing 20 year period, devoted himself to the complete restoration of the home, outbuildings and mill for the benefit of future generations.
Today the opportunity exists to be the beneficiary of Mr Roberts’ passion and to acquire one of the states most significant heritage residences.
